Protection for industrial designs is available in most countries. UK and European Community laws provide an unusually high number of different ways in which a design may be protected in the UK, including registration procedures, unregistered design rights (that is, protection that arises in aspects of some designs automatically), and copyright.

We represent clients directly before the UK Designs Registry (part of the UK Intellectual Property Office) and before the European Community Designs Registry (known as the "Office for Harmonisation of the Internal Market"). We have a network of overseas firms, with whom we have strong working relationships, to represent our clients before foreign intellectual property offices and to advise on foreign design law. We are thus able to offer design procurement and advisory services worldwide.

Our services include:

  • Identification of rights
  • Procurement of registered design rights
  • Advising on infringement and validity of design rights
  • Licensing and assignment of rights
  • Competitor monitoring services
  • Renewal fee payment
  • Due diligence
